The Town of Shallotte is developing a Collector Street Plan. The purpose of this plan is to

improve transportation in Shallotte – manage traffic congestion, create a connected

community, and establish multi-modal transportation options such as walking and bicycling.

The Collector Street Plan will result in a list of roadway, bicycle, and pedestrian projects that

will improve mobility in Shallotte.

 

 

 

PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT:
The Town is seeking public input from people who live and/or work in Shallotte about their
transportation priorities and project suggestions. There are several ways to get involved:

 A public workshop on Thursday March 20th from 5 – 7 p.m. at Town of Shallotte Council
Chambers (110 Cheers Street). Stop by anytime to meet the project team, learn more
about the project, and provide project suggestions and priorities.

 An online input map that allows the public to identify where future transportation
projects are needed.

CURRENT STATUS:
The Town has established a Stakeholder Committee to guide the development of the plan. The
Committee met on February 28, 2025. Information gathered from the Committee meeting and
other data are being compiled and reviewed to present to the public during the upcoming
Public Engagement Period (March 17 – April 18).

 

 

NEXT STEPS:
Project partners will compile the information provided by the public during the Public
Engagement Period with information provided by NCDOT and the Stakeholder Committee to
create a draft list and map of future transportation projects. These draft recommendations will
be presented to the public for their review and input in May 2025.

 

FINAL STEPS:
The final draft of the Collector Street Plan will be presented to Town Council in July/August
2025. The goal is for the Town to adopt the final plan. Once the plan is adopted, the Town will
work with additional project partners to secure funds to implement the recommended projects.
