Public Works

The Public Works Department is comprised of 15 employees spread across several divisions. It isn't uncommon for an employee to work in varying roles within the Public Works Department. The Public Works Department includes: sewer, streets, parks, maintenance of all town vehicles and buildings.

Dan Formyduval is responsible for the oversight of the entire department.

The Town requires all new construction or changes-in-use to pay a capital reserve fee due to the increased impact to the Town's sewer system. Please contact Debra White to find out more information.

Did you know that the decisions you make on what to flush down the drain have an impact on your sewer bill?

It’s something that most give little thought, but taking a few seconds to think before you flush or dump a substance down the drain can go a long way towards helping the Town of Shallotte keep your sewer rates as low as possible…..

The milk that went bad before you could finish it is an example of something that shouldn’t be poured down the drain… Milk, like other dairy products, contain fats that build up on surfaces over time and will clog pipes and cause pump systems to fail. Not only does this impact your sewer service provider, but can also result in direct costs to you when the pipes in your home become clogged…….. Keeping the lid on that container of milk and disposing of it in your trash can is the proper way to dispose of it.

Those wipes that say on the package that they are flushable….. they aren’t. They do not dissolve in water like toilet paper does. As they travel through pipes they get hung on rough surfaces and eventually end up clogging pumps that send waste water to the treatment facilities.

Fats- Dairy Products such as milk, sour cream, peanut butter, poultry skin, cheese etc.

Oils- All cooking oils, salad dressings, olive oil etc.

Grease- Bacon drippings, cooked soups, gravy, mayo, etc.
