Notice of Discharge of Untreated Sewage

The Town of Shallotte has had a discharge of untreated wastewater from our lift station located at 4663 Mintz St of approximately 5,000 gallons.  The discharge occurred on the night  of May 17th 2026 for approximately twelve hours.  All visible loss of wastewater was recovered, and samples have been pulled from the Shallotte River and sent for testing.  The lift station was immediately repaired to prevent further discharge.  This notice was required by North Carolina General Statutes, Article 21, Chapter 143.215.1C  For more information contact the Town of Shallotte at 910.754.4032.

Notification of Discharge of Untreated Sewage

North Carolina General Statute 143.215.1C requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more occurs or any amount reaches surface waters.


In accordance with that regulation, the following news release has been prepared and issued to media in the affected county.
