Public Notice- Recycling

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO RESIDENTS OF SHALLOTTE

Recycling Service Transition

After careful consideration, the Town of Shallotte will discontinue municipal recycling services effective June 25, 2026.

This decision was not made lightly. Recycling has been an important service for our community, and the Town understands many residents value the opportunity to recycle locally. Unfortunately, continued increases in operational expenses and mandated cost increases from the State have created significant financial pressures on municipalities across North Carolina.

In recent years, local governments have experienced substantial increases in required expenditures, including inflationary impacts on nearly every area of municipal operations.

After evaluating the Town’s increasing budget obligations and long-term financial sustainability, the Board determined it could no longer continue funding the recycling program while also maintaining its commitment to avoiding an increase in property taxes for residents.

The Town remains committed to providing core public services while maintaining responsible stewardship of taxpayer funds. We sincerely regret the impact this change may have on residents.

We appreciate the community’s participation and support of the recycling program over the years.
