Fire Extinguishers: Can you inspect and refill my fire extinguisher?
Answer: No, you must contact a qualified company to inspect and refill reusable fire extinguishers. Reusable fire extinguishers typically have a metal discharge handle. Those that have a plastic discharge handle are disposable.
Fire Hydrants: What are firefighters doing to the fire hydrants?
Answer: To ensure that fire hydrants meet the needs of the delivery of adequate water for fire suppression, the Town of Shallotte Fire/Rescue Department ensures access to fire hydrants and conducts functional testing to those within the Town’s jurisdiction.
Fire Hydrants: Why is water spraying out of the fire hydrants?
Answer: The water system is a Brunswick County asset. For the health of the water system, the County will periodically flow fire hydrants to ensure acceptable water quality.

Open Burning: Can I burn in the Town?
Answer: Yes, and there are laws that must be followed. You can only burn natural grown vegetative materials removed from your own property on days that have an air quality of Code Green or Code Yellow. We suggest that anyone wishing to lawfully burn check the Air Quality Forecast at https://airquality.climate.ncsu.edu/ and obtain a burn permit from Nc Forest Resources at https://www.ncforestservice.gov/burn_permits/burn_permits_main.htm. Patches: How can I get a fire department patch?
Answer: We do not trade or give away official fire department insignias.
Shirts: How can I get a fire department shirt?
Answer: We do not trade or give away official fire department apparel.
Smoke Alarms: My Smoke detector chirps randomly, what do I do?
Answer: Try blowing the dust out of the detector. Then, replace the battery in the detector. Don’t forget to press the Test/Silent button. If this doesn’t correct the issue and the detector is 10 years old, replace the detector.
