SHALLOTTE - At approximately 4:40 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17, the Shallotte Police Department responded to an alarm activation at Shallotte Electric & Plumbing at 4900 Main Street. During a search of the building, a suspect was found hiding inside.
Jonathan Blake Ferster, 21, was arrested at the scene without incident. He was charged with Felony Breaking and Entering, Felony Larceny and Felony Possession of Burglary Tools. The suspect admitted to breaking into Shallotte Electric in an attempt to steal copper wire.
Ferster of 370 Gray Bridge Road, Shallotte was connected to a crime that occurred earlier in the week in Shallotte.
At approximately 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 14, a female victim was returning to her vehicle in the Hill’s Grocery Store parking lot when a person came up behind her and ripped her purse from her arms. The suspect took off running on foot toward Blake Street. Ferster admitted to his involvement in this crime resulting in additional charges of Felony Larceny from a Person and Felony Conspiracy. The Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office brought additional charges against Ferster after his arrest by the Shallotte Police Department.
Cody Austin Kohler, 22, of 4468 Pigott Road, Shallotte was also arrested and charged with Felony Aiding and Abetting a Larceny, Felony Conspiracy and Possession of Stolen Goods for his involvement in the Oct. 14 crime.
Ferster and Kohler were both detained at the Brunswick County Detention Center under $10,000 bonds. Ferster’s bond increased as additional charges were added by the BCSO.
